Located within the UNESCO-listed Kinabalu Park, Mount Kinabalu offers a unique climbing experience through diverse ecosystems ranging from tropical rainforest to alpine-like granite landscapes.

Your journey begins at Timpohon Gate, where you will start the ascent accompanied by a licensed mountain guide. Trek through lush montane forests and enjoy spectacular views as you make your way to Panalaban, the mountain’s overnight accommodation area.

Spend the night at the popular Laban Rata Hostel, where climbers can rest and prepare for the summit attempt. In the early hours of the following morning, continue the climb towards Low’s Peak (4,095m), the highest point on Mount Kinabalu. Reaching the summit at sunrise rewards climbers with breathtaking panoramic views over Sabah and, on clear days, all the way to the South China Sea.

After celebrating your achievement at the summit, descend back to Panalaban for breakfast before continuing down to Kinabalu Park, completing one of Southeast Asia’s most memorable mountain adventures.

Itinerary

Day 1Kota Kinabalu / Kinabalu Park HQ / Timpohon Gate / Ascend Mount Kinabalu / Panalaban Base Camp

Pick-up from Kota Kinabalu at approximately 0600hrs and transfer to Kinabalu National Park. Upon arrival, meet your mountain guide, who will assist with the climbing registration process and the completion of the required liability declaration form.

After registration, collect your packed lunch and board the park shuttle for the transfer to Timpohon Gate, the starting point of your Mount Kinabalu climb.

Upon arrival at Timpohon Gate, attend a short safety briefing conducted by your mountain guide before beginning your ascent to Panalaban. The trail passes through diverse montane and cloud forests, offering opportunities to appreciate Mount Kinabalu’s unique flora and fauna.

Around midday, enjoy your packed lunch at one of the rest shelters located along the trail.

Upon arrival at Panalaban, check in to your hostel and enjoy some free time to rest and acclimatize to the higher altitude. An early dinner will be served in the evening before you retire for the night in preparation for the summit climb the following morning.

Day 2Low's Peak / Descend Mount Kinabalu / Kota Kinabalu

At 0200hrs, wake up for an early supper before continuing your ascent towards the summit of Mount Kinabalu.

The climb to Low’s Peak (4,095m) is both challenging and rewarding, testing your endurance and determination. Depending on your pace and weather conditions, you may be rewarded with a spectacular sunrise over the surrounding mountain ranges and the breathtaking landscapes of Sabah.

After spending some time at the summit, begin your descent back to Panalaban. Upon arrival, enjoy a late breakfast followed by check out from your accommodation.

Continue descending to Timpohon Gate before transferring back to Kinabalu National Park Headquarters. Estimated arrival is between 1300hrs and 1500hrs, depending on your trekking pace.

A buffet lunch will be served at Balsam Café within Kinabalu Park.

After lunch, transfer back to Kota Kinabalu City. The journey takes approximately two hours, with arrival in the late afternoon.
