Choosing Your Route : Timpohon Trails vs Via Ferrata
The old Mesilau trail is closed forever due to past landslides. Instead, all climbers use the famous Timpohon Trail. However, you can still choose between a regular hike or an exciting via ferrata paths.
Option A: The Standard 2D1N Timpohon Trail
This is the classic choice for most hikers. On Day 1, you will walk up through beautiful, mossy forests. Afterward, on Day 2, you will scramble up bare rock slopes in the dark to reach the peak.
Option B: The Via Ferrata Circuit
Alternatively, you can book a via ferrata package. Via ferrata means “iron path” in Italian. It is a trail on a steep cliff face with steel cables, iron ladders, and wire bridges.
- Walk the Torq: This is an easy route (430 meters long) for beginners. Hence, it is great for families. You must be at least 10 years old and 1.3 meters tall.
- Low’s Peak Circuit: On the other hand, this is a tough route (1.2 kilometers long) for brave hikers. Specifically, it has a thrilling suspension bridge and steep drops. Therefore, you must be at least 17 years old.
Important Note: If you choose this option, you must attend a safety talk at Pendant Hut on Day 1 by 3:30 PM. Then, on Day 2, you must finish the summit run and reach the cliff path between 6:30 AM and 7:15 AM. Otherwise, you cannot do it because clouds roll in quickly.
